Healthy eating: how to do it if it is expensive?
Hungarians are aware of the importance and the basics of healthy eating, as 77% know and agree that a healthy diet should be diverse, balanced and complete.

Still, only 37% say their diet is basically healthy and balanced. Data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reveal that Hungarian fruit and vegetable consumption increased in the last five years, but meat consumption also grew until 2021. Hungarians still eat less fruit and vegetables than the EU average, and the number of people suffering from cardiovascular diseases is high.
59% of 18-65 year old Hungarians think healthy eating is expensive. 33% of this age group follow some kind of special diet quite regularly, but three quarters of these people do it because of a health problem, and only one quarter do it as a preventive measure. Vegan diet connects sustainability and healthy eating, but in Hungary the proportion of vegans is less than 5%. From the many health trends in eating, Hungarians still give the biggest importance to their food being E-number free, while being free from trans-fatty acids is still something that not many Hungarians care about. //
