Auchan Hungary joined the plastic-free July for the third time this summer. Last year, single-use plastic bags, the so-called rollbags, were removed from stores for the first time on the domestic market, and in this year’s campaign, a paper bag design competition was announced to promote a sustainable lifestyle. The entries were judged by a professional jury led by Róbert Alföldi, and at the press conference announcing the results, in addition to the presentation of the winning works and their creators, customers were also able to take possession of the paper bags manufactured with the winning design, which were exclusively autographed by the winning designer and Róbert Alföldi at the press event.

Auchan Hungary continuously strives to be among the most sustainable companies, for which it takes new strategic steps every year. In 2022, they were the first on the domestic market to completely remove tear-off, single-use plastic bags from stores, saving 172 tons of environmentally harmful plastic per year. Auchan also focused on the reduction of single-use plastics during this year’s plastic-free July campaign. Therefore, he announced a creative design competition to redesign the paper bag available in the store. They were looking for ideas that carry an important message about sustainability, conscious consumer habits and decisions, and plastic pollution. The special feature of the competition is that the winning graphic was put into production and its realized form can be seen in 50,000 copies on Auchan paper bags.

A total of more than 70 valid applications were received, Róbert Alföldi also joined the professional jury. It was not an easy decision to make, but in the end they successfully selected the three most high-quality works, among which the paper bag with Júlia Asódi-Vitéz’s creativity is now available for customers in stores. In addition, the first place winner received HUF 200,000 Auchan gift cards, the second, Natália Schaffer-Sós, HUF 100,000, and the third, Dániel Varga, HUF 50,000. The paper bag with the winning design and produced was dedicated exclusively to the public by the creator and Róbert Alföldi at the announcement of the results.
