Consumer sentiment in Germany fell to a record low

The GfK Economic Research Institute in Germany measured a record low consumer sentiment index for July; the indicator fell from minus 26.2 points in June to minus 27.4 points, although it turned out to be slightly better than the market forecast of minus 27.7 points.

 

Since the beginning of the survey in 1991, no lower values have been measured throughout Germany.

Due to the increase in the cost of living, all sub-indices reflect a deteriorating assessment of the situation: economic expectations fell to minus 11.7 points from the previous minus 9.3 points, income expectations fell to minus 33.5 points minus 23.7 points and the willingness to buy and spend its index also fell to minus 13.7 points from minus 11.1 points.
