METRO presents the iconic red Michelin plaques to the best restaurants
This year’s Michelin Guide award ceremony took place on 3 November 2022. For several years now METRO – a Michelin Guide partner and the premium quality cooking ingredient supplier partner of Hungarian restaurants – has been presenting the iconic red plaques to the proud winners.
The first time is always special
On 7 November Platán Gourmet Restaurant in Tata was the first to receive its red plaque. Platán Gourmet is the first Hungarian restaurant outside of Budapest to have two Michelin stars. Chef István Pesti was jurying at the V. Czifray contest, where METRO’s CEO Thierry Guillon-Verne and HoReCa business development executive Ákos Bősze handed him the plaque for the two stars.
The Michelin plaque “tour” continued on 10 November, and Thierry Guillon-Verne and METRO’s head of marketing Ákos Taferner did the honours. Salt retained its Michelin star – chef Szilárd Tóth and owner Máté Boldizsár received the red plaque. Essência Restaurant, the Hungarian-Portuguese restaurant of Éva Jenei and Tiago Sabarigo also held on to its Michelin star. Stand Restaurant became Hungary’s second restaurant with two Michelin stars – the plaque was handed to Szabina Szulló and Tamás Széll.
Also on 10 November, at the METRO Gastro Academy Ákos Bősze presented the BIB Gourmand recognition to Balázs Csapody, owner and manager of Kistücsök Restaurant in Balatonszemes.
Hand in hand with hospitality
All of the Green Star, Bib Gourmand and Michelin Plate winners received their plaques from the representatives of METRO in November. The majority of these restaurants are METRO partners, as the company has a 70-90% share in the hospitality segment, depending on the given product category. Ákos Bősze told: they react quickly to culinary trends and innovations, and METRO treats its customers as real partners, monitoring their changing needs and involving them in innovation work.(x)
