The PET Cup is rowing on a new river: heading to the Maros!

The PET Cup’s mission is to clean the Tisza floodplain of the pollution deposited there, mainly of Ukrainian and Romanian origin, the largest share of which is PET bottles.

In 2022, three competitions were organized, the tenth jubilee one on the Upper Tisza, while the fourth on Lake Tisza and Bodrog

The 640 people participating in these (family, friend, civil and company teams, members of the replenishment – UP – and volunteers) cleared the floodplain of a total of 30 tons of waste on 31 boats made of waste. The most heavily polluted area was the section between Tokaj and Tiszaladány, here the pickers collected 5 tons of waste in a single day. In addition to continuously increasing their efficiency, they also want to protect the areas that have already been cleaned from re-pollution, but for this it is also essential to clean the tributaries that supply waste. That’s why they decided to row on a new river in 2023: the Maros!

We also received inquiries from Abátfalva, Makó and Szeged, asking for cooperation. The pet owners want to help them by organizing the Marosi PET Cup in cooperation with local municipalities and green organizations between May 18-21, 2023.

The desire to do something and good intentions came together, and a supporter embraced the cause. With the support of Diageo Zrt., those who take part in the Marosi PET Cup will be part of a truly meaningful, experience-rich, community-forging and guaranteed memorable program!

The organizers expect six teams to apply by March 1, 2023

The materials for the two boats of the Marosi competition teams made from waste are collected with the involvement of local schools: the organizers of the PET Cup will wait for the empty PET bottles in the big bags placed in the schoolyards from March, and they will also involve schoolchildren in building the boats.

If you don’t want to go to the Maros, but to Bodro, the Tisza lake or the classic, eight-day Tisza PET Cup, you don’t have to worry either, you can still register for all competitions, also until March 1!
