Alcohol prices jump in Scotland
Due to the law – adopted by the Parliament in Edinburgh six years ago, but introduced only on Tuesday, due to lengthy legal encumbrances – on the minimum price of alcoholic beverages, the prices of alcoholic beverages in Scotland has increased considerably – origo wrote.
The price increase for some drinks is very significant: for two liters of strong cider, which has an alcohol content that exceeds the 14 alcohol units recommended by the healthcare authorities as the weekly maximum consumption limit, was typically available for 2.50 pounds (900 forints) in the Scottish supermarkets, but from Tuesday the minimum price of this drink will be 7.50 pounds.
