Six out of ten employers plan to raise wages by 2025, but at a lower rate than last year
Similar to previous years, the majority of companies implemented the promised wage increases in 2024, and in fact, more companies increased their salaries than they had originally planned. However, the projections for this year show more modest plans: only six out of ten employers are planning a raise, an average of 8.4%, according to a recent employer survey by Profession.hu.
Profession.hu examined the wage increase plans of Hungarian companies for this year in its latest research. In its January survey, the job portal asked 440 of its corporate partners about their wage increases last year and their plans for 2025.
Last year, 10 percentage points more companies increased their wages than they had planned
In January, 60% of companies stated that they were planning a wage increase in 2025.
“This year, the majority are also counting on wage increases, and based on the experiences of recent years, it is expected that there will be even more of them this year. Looking at last year’s results, for example, the difference between the plan and the reality in the proportion of wage developers was +10 percentage points, meaning that in the end 73% of respondents decided in favor of a wage increase”
– Blanka Dencső, a market research and business development expert at Profession.hu, draws attention to the trend.
Among companies planning wage increases, companies with a revenue of over 10 billion forints have a higher than average proportion. Overall, it can be said that larger companies are planning wage increases at a higher rate this year, but to a lower extent than smaller wage developers.
