The head of the ministry drew attention to the fact that our country looks to Israel as an example, since the achievements it has made in the field of agriculture throughout its history are amazing. The Hungarian government declared agriculture a strategic sector and provides three times more resources for development than before, so we want to implement technological developments that increase our competitiveness, both in agriculture and in the food industry, he added.
The issue of water is getting even more attention
The minister also touched on the fact that last year’s historic drought made agriculture difficult, which acted as a warning sign for us, which is why we are putting even more emphasis on irrigation development. And I want to learn the application of the most modern technologies from the best. Until now, we have seen water as a disaster that must be diverted quickly in the event of floods, but we have implemented a change of attitude. We must conserve and manage water, because it is the basis of a safe food supply. The head of the ministry also touched on the fact that domestic agriculture can supply twice the country’s population with food, so Hungary can be a key partner in terms of Israel’s import needs. The ministers agreed that a strategic partnership between the two countries is also necessary in terms of agriculture. István Nagy emphasized that we would be happy to enter into a strategic partnership with Israel in the fields of agriculture, education and research development in order to get to know new technologies better, because in this way domestic agriculture can further develop. As part of the consultation, the Israeli minister invited István Nagy for an official working visit.
