The Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) organises courses, conferences and study trips for members, in order to make them more competitive by learning new things. Our magazine interviewed NAK president Balázs Győrffy.

What is the main objective of NAK’s Food Industry Directorate?

– The directorate’s main goal is to make the tens of thousands food company members feel that NAK membership isn’t a burden but an opportunity. This is why we have been organising the ‘Let’s Learn Together!’ programme for three years now, to teach members best practices in various areas. So far almost 450 members have used this learning opportunity.

Do members get the chance to learn new things abroad?

– We have organised ham-themed study trips to the Institute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology in Catalonia three times. Members also had the opportunity to visit goat and sheep milk processors in France. Many of the participants are already using their new knowledge in production!

What are the topics of the Food Industry Directorate’s series of conferences?

Participants can listen to presentations that focus on practical aspects in themes such as packaging, business management, marketing trends, and food hygiene and safety. The goal of the Food Industry Panorama conference series is to start a dialogue with individual agri-food segments.

How can NAK members learn about the actual market situation and the changes in laws and regulations?

– Last year we launched the ‘Food Industry Manual’ – a series of publications that aims at passing on important information to members. For instance last year one issue was about gluten-free food products. We plan to publish seven more issues this year, with various topics such as product marking or HACCP.

How do you keep in touch with members?

– Last August we started a food industry coordinator network. The main task of these coordinators is to visit food company NAK members regularly for information exchange purposes. This is also important because the directorate has several working groups, where members’ voice needs to be heard! //
