Hamburger can cause memory loss
Fast food can cause long-term memory loss in teenagers, according to new research. According to research from the University of Southern California, regular consumption of high-fat and high-sugar fast food can lead to serious brain damage, especially memory problems at a young age.
During the research, the research team fed rats a high-fat diet and then performed a series of memory tests on them to assess how their brains responded to various learning and memory tasks. Based on the results, the fast-food-fed rats showed significant memory impairments compared to the control group rats that received a normal diet.
The study drew on research into Alzheimer’s disease, as people with Alzheimer’s disease often have low levels of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which is involved in memory and learning. The effects of a high-fat and high-sugar diet have been linked to changes in acetylcholine levels.
