Already 60% of companies lend knowledge to alleviate the lack of internal competence
A trend that has been visible for years was recently quantified by the professional social platform LinkedIn, when it reported that the number of job advertisements published on the platform, mentioning artificial intelligence as a competency, had doubled in the past two years. Similarly, everything related to data and its professional and business exploitation, as well as cyber security, is considered to be “marketable” knowledge – in other words, small and large companies have precisely realized that they must definitely utilize the latest technologies if they want to stay on their feet in the digitization competition. The only catch is that it can take months to recruit such a specialist, if it succeeds at all, not to mention the integration or the start of vitally important projects. How can smaller companies starting at a disadvantage get the missing technological knowledge, and are extended teams really the future of work?
Every day, it happens to millions of businesses around the world that they want to strengthen their security system in the midst of increasing cyber-attacks, speed up customer service and internal communication with an AI-based chatbot, or just want to use the huge amount of data from different business areas to make the best strategic decisions . However, the implementation of similar projects requires special technological knowledge, so companies can draw from an even narrower segment of the labor market, while even acquiring basic developer knowledge is a huge challenge: recruiting a profit software engineer takes an average of 43 days, while nearly half of developers only 1- He spends 2 years at a particular company.
“The lack of technological competence – especially in the trendiest fields, such as artificial intelligence, data science and IT security – is a serious problem for companies, at the same time, the implementation of planned projects cannot be delayed for years, because this would put them at a huge disadvantage in the digitalization competition. To compensate for the missing expertise, they can look for an external consultant who can provide guidance, they can outsource the entire process, which raises many logistical, trust and quality assurance issues, however, “team augmentation”, which combines the advantages of the two solutions, i.e. the use of extended teams, is becoming more and more popular when one’s own the workforce is supplemented by the involvement of external specialist(s) of the companies for one project at a time”
