Starting school: it can be HUF 85,000 to enroll a child this year
The back-to-school shopping frenzy has begun: Hungarian parents are becoming more thoughtful, choosing fewer but better quality school supplies and school bags for their children. Recent research by REGIO JÁTÉK also reveals that enrolling a child in school can cost up to HUF 65,000-85,000, if you also need to buy a new school bag, which is worth planning for several years and choosing a durable, long-lasting item. REGIO JÁTÉK conducted a survey among its own customers regarding the start of the school year, based on the results of which the shopping frenzy begins in the second half of July and really starts in mid-August.
“The opinion of more than 1,600 respondents is supported by our sales data, according to which the purchase of school equipment peaks in the last two weeks of August. Similar to last year, it can be seen that customers are making more deliberate decisions and choosing fewer, but higher-value, better-quality products. Online, our average basket value increased by 7.4% to HUF 11,600, while in-person shopping by 10.5% to HUF 8,300 compared to our data from a year ago.
– Dávid Gyaraki, marketing manager of REGIO JÁTÉK, explained the trends.
