Where did Hungarians’ work motivation go?
In November 2016 GKI Economic Research Zrt. conducted a representative survey with the participation of 987 companies, trying to find the answer to questions such as ‘Why are companies unable to recruit quality workforce?’ It turned out that for many companies the low level of motivation (+43) is a major problem in finding quality workforce. The second biggest obstacle is that the applicants don’t have the right qualifications (+41). Some are qualified but they aren’t good enough for the task (+38) and problems also include that the salary offered by companies is too low (+28).
The lack of motivation has serious consequences (deterioration of the quality of work and a lower employee morale), which can lead to a high level of fluctuation at a company. It is especially companies with 150 or more employees that are affected by the lack of motivation in applicants: from the maximum +100 points that could be given by responding companies this factor scored 53 on average. In the majority of sectors the low level of motivation is a very big problem, e.g. in retail (+64), the light industry (+58), mechanical engineering (+55) and the food industry (+53).
