The Guild of Hungarian Restaurateurs (MVI) and National Tax and Customs Administration’s (NAV) Pest County directorate organised a conference together for the third time. On 29 May Dr Mihály Minya, director of the latter welcomed the many participants and stressed: the event was intended to be not mere information providing, but a professional forum where the answers to practical problems are found. MVI president László Kovács talked about the importance of NAV’s educational efforts, and the tax authority’s partner-type relationship with hospitality businesses.
All the speakers came from NAV; the first one, Dr József Lambertus talked about the latest developments concerning VAT, tips and service fee issues. For instance he told that it doesn’t matter whether a guest pays in cash or with a debit card, the tip they give isn’t subject to VAT. The next speaker was Lajo Bakos, who spoke about excise products in the hospitality business, e.g. what to do when the tax stamp is damaged or lost. Tünde Kuhn gave a presentation about NAV’s experiences from on-site inspections at hospitality businesses. She also called attention to the most important mistakes made in using online cash registers. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions. The expert’s presentations were recorded and those who weren’t there can soon listen to them on the MVI website. //
