Grandiose sustainability plans at VELUX
In the middle of November, the last meeting of the Hungarian Marketing Association’s Green branch of the year took place at the VELUX regional office, where we learned about VELUX’s ambitious global sustainability goals and how the company integrates these aspirations into its day-to-day, local operations.

Sustainability has been important to VELUX since the beginning, and for the past 80 years the company has strived to make it possible for people to live in sustainable homes filled with sunlight and fresh air.
Velux and sustainability
Two years ago, the company group launched its 2030 sustainability strategy called “It’s our nature”, which includes their commitment to the preservation of the climate and nature. The company’s goal is to achieve total carbon neutrality by 2041 – that is, to compensate for the carbon dioxide emitted since our foundation by their 100th birthday – and to become a 100% carbon dioxide neutral company by 2030. VELUX has entered into a long-term partnership with Schneider Electric to achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy, and as part of a 20-year partnership with WWF, it launched the first forest protection and restoration project in Uganda, which before 2041 will cover approximately it will sequester one million tons of carbon dioxide.
VELUX is committed to sustainability on a global level, so it considers it important to integrate its efforts at the local level into its everyday operations; an example of this is that the company moved to the new regional office in October last year, during the design of which sustainability aspects were extremely important, such as the creation of sunny, fresh-air workspaces or the preservation of as much furniture as possible from the old office. VELUX also tries to organize its corporate events with as little carbon footprint as possible, and there is also a sustainability team made up of volunteers in the East-Central European region, whose aim is to promote sustainability and help people to incorporate it into their daily lives at the local level – be it professional or about personal life.
