The Hungarian people saved twice as much food
Last fall, they were only around one million – today it has doubled. Hungarian people are increasingly opening up to sustainable solutions like Munch. Most food was saved in Pest county, including the capital, followed by Csongrád and Komárom-Esztergom counties.
Two million packages saved from waste
According to the research results of Nébih, in Hungary, Hungarian households produce an average of more than 59 kg of food waste per person over the course of a year.1 This figure was close to 66 kg before the publication of Munch. Although the entire decrease cannot be attributed to the Hungarian startup, the more than two million saved packages contributed significantly to the decrease in national data. Most of the food was saved in Pest county, including the capital, followed by Csongrád and Komárom-Esztergom counties. In these counties, not only the numbers show the popularity of food rescue, but also the online communities created there, which significantly shape people’s sustainability habits. (revealed from the research on fate in Munch’s community).
“It’s almost unbelievable that less than a year ago we saved the millionth package, and now we’re more than double that number. This number is due to the fact that the food rescue application is now available not only in larger cities, but in more and more parts of the country. The success of the national expansion is due both to our smaller, independent partners and to chains such as SPAR, PENNY, Auchan and Starbucks, who work together with us against food waste.”
– said Albert Wettstein, co-founder of Munch.
