It is difficult for the mills to buy suitable, high-quality wheat on the market now. The prices reach 60 thousand forints per tonne, and in some places they already exceed it – Világgazdaság has learned from grain trader sources. This equates to a 20 percent price increase since the start of the harvest.

Domestic demand for wheat will increase, we expect 240-250 thousand tons of raw materials for starch production this season, while in the previous season it was only 80 thousand tons – Pótsa Zsófia, General Secretary of the Hungarian Grain Processors, Feed Manufacturers and Traders Association (Grain Association) said.

The mill industry buys 1.3 million tons of wheat per year – this already includes the amount needed for flour exports. The domestic demand is 1.6-1.7 million tons for feed purposes and 300 thousand tons for seeds. (vg.hu)
