An insect restaurant was opened in South Africa
Chef Mario Barnard of South Africa tasted the taste of grilled scorpions and crunchy insects sprinkled with garlic and spices in Thailand four years ago, but he never came across it.
However, this bad experience prompted Barnard to experiment with insect-based food, and as a result, in July 2019, he opened an occasional restaurant in Cape Town’s fashionable suburb of Woodstock, serving only insect-based food.
Barnard told Reuters that “Insect Experience” is the first restaurant in South Africa to serve only insect dishes, although these restaurants are gaining popularity in different parts of the world. (MTI)
