Coca-Cola tests label-free bottles for sustainability
Coca-Cola is coming up with another sustainability innovation in the UK. At the end of January, the company announced that it would be testing half-liter PET bottles of Sprite and Sprite Zero with a new, label-free look for three months. The aim of the initiative is to simplify the recycling process and reduce the amount of packaging materials.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that the company has tested sustainability innovation through the Sprite brand. Previous changes, such as replacing green bottles with transparent ones, happened to be aimed at facilitating the recycling of PET bottles at the time.
During the experiment, the company replaces the traditional paper labels of the bottles with laser technology, so the product information is engraved on the back. Instead of the embossed branding visible on the neck of the bottles, this solution not only modernizes the packaging aesthetically, but also reduces the amount of packaging materials used by removing the labels.
