Good yields of arable crops offset the decline in acreage, with winter wheat and barley harvesting at an average record, the State Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development at the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) said at a press conference in Budapest on Monday.
Feldman Zsolt announced that the farmers had harvested 8 million tons of crops on 1.5 million hectares, thus essentially completing this year’s harvest. The work of the growers was hampered by the rainy autumn and the cold spring, the harvest was delayed by 2-3 weeks. In recent months, the weather has caused damage to 180,000 hectares, and arable crops have been damaged mainly by drought and inland water, he added. (MTI)
