NAK joined the call sent to the EU by EU agricultural interest representatives
The National Chamber of Agrarian Economy (NAK) has joined the Copa-Cogeca open letter, in which the EU’s agricultural producers and cooperatives are asking the president of the European Commission to represent the interests of agriculture more effectively, the president of the NAK said on Friday.
Balázs Győrffy announced on his social media page that at the Copa-Cogeca (Committee of Agricultural Professional Organizations – General Committee of Agricultural Cooperatives) board meeting, he spoke out against artificial meat produced in laboratories for the sake of animal breeders.
In the post, the head of the Chamber of Agriculture also shared the letter of interest representatives, which was addressed to Ursula von der Leyen and which was also signed by NAK as a member of Copa
According to the call, the EU must put agriculture back at the center of its strategy if it wants to deal with farmers’ protests. Agriculture and forestry are an important part of the European project, their interests are nevertheless being ignored, while the competitiveness of European farmers is also threatened by economic, climatic and social challenges – they said. The letter calls for urgent measures so that farmers’ work can be simplified, their administrative burdens can be reduced, and they can receive fair remuneration from the food chains. Safeguards on Ukrainian agricultural products should be extended to grain, oilseeds and honey, and the agricultural effects of the Green Deal should be assessed in the coming months, the letter said. The EU agricultural interest representatives also request that the next EU budget reflect the challenges facing farmers, and that there should be its own EU commissioner for agriculture and rural areas, who would also hold the position of vice-president of the European Commission.
