Almost half of Hungarian Generation Z youth would take up a job abroad
Despite the economic slowdown, the Hungarian labor market is still tight, the unemployment rate was 3.9% in April, which is considered low. The Hungarian economy is still short of workers. Demographic trends do not bode well for the future in this area, as society is aging throughout Europe: by 2030, the proportion of people over 50 will be 55% of the total population in the EU. In many sectors, it is therefore an economic necessity for Hungarian companies to replace the missing workforce from countries outside the European Union, even from distant countries – it was said at the HR professional section of the Business Fest business festival organized with the main support of the WHC Group.
Due to the labor shortage affecting many areas, especially the industrial production sector, the employment of guest workers coming from outside the EU, even from distant countries, in the shortage professions has become increasingly prominent in our country in the recent period. The experience of Hungarian companies so far has been generally favorable with regard to labor coming from third countries: foreigners who take up work in our country are generally motivated, loyal and relatively easily and quickly adapt to the conditions here, and their turnover rate is low.
As part of the HR Fest organized as part of our country’s largest business festival, the labor market specialists focused on the topic of guest workers coming to our country, examining several aspects.
Veronika Csonka, WHC Group’s head of international recruitment, talked to Tünde Boros, head of recruitment at Flextronics DL, about the fact that the global electronics company, which employs nearly 7,000 people in Hungary, has been employing Ukrainian workers since 2017, while since last year it has also been employing workers from the Philippines. Regarding the experience of the large company, Boros Tünde reported that the integration of both Ukrainian and Philippine employees was smooth and problem-free, thanks to the fact that the organization was thoroughly and timely prepared and the Hungarian employees were sensitized, placing great emphasis on internal communication.
