The current labor market situation favors companies ready to expand
here is still an active presence of employees in the domestic labor market. As in the previous quarter, nearly 20% more applications were made in the first three months of 2024 than a year earlier. With the exception of Nógrád and Bács-Kiskun counties, the number of applications increased everywhere, with the largest proportion in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Baranya counties, according to the latest quarterly report of Profession.hu.
The optimistic expectations of employers at the beginning of the year have not yet appeared in the labor market data – there are still fewer activated job advertisements than at this time last year. In the first quarter of 2024, the number of positions waiting to be filled decreased by a total of 11.3% compared to the same period of the previous year on Hungary’s most visited thematic job portal.
With the exception of four counties, the number of vacant positions in the rest of the country is lower than a year ago. The most significant decrease can be measured in the counties of Nógrád (-36.2%), Veszprém (-25.2%) and Komárom-Esztergom (-22.4%).
In terms of the national average, the largest decline occurred in the field of HR and labor affairs, where 26.3% fewer vacancies were advertised compared to a year earlier. The slowdown is more moderate in the areas of manufacturing, production (-19.6%), physical, auxiliary and trained work (-18.3%), transport, procurement, logistics (-17%), and engineering (-17%) in recruitment. On the other hand, there was an increase in advertised positions in the fields of marketing, media, PR (+2.6%) and public administration (+10.8%).
