The U.S.A. became the country of home gardeners
Millions of people started gardening on their own at the outbreak of the Great Depression in the United States in 2008, in order to restrain their spendings. Now it appears, that these home horticultures will not disappear at the end of the recession, because it is still worth to produce at home, due to the increasing global food prices.
About 43 million U.S. households produced their own fruits and vegetables, either fully or partially in 2009. This is a 19 percent increase, compared to 2008 – shows the report of the national gardening association. The amount spent on horticultures in 2009 – on seeds, saplings etc.. – increased by 20 percent to three billion USD and this amount did not decrease in 2010 – reports Világgazdaság Online, after AP.
