Visa: Every fifth Hungarian plans to pay with a mobile phone during Black Friday
Mobile devices are increasingly becoming a self-evident part of everyday life, according to Visa’s latest research, 62% of Hungarian respondents prefer to use their smartphones to shop and pay online, and nearly a quarter (23%) also use them to pay in stores. Based on the results of Visa’s Mobile Payment Habits 2022 survey covering eight Central and Eastern European countries, including Hungary, domestic consumers prefer mobile payments primarily due to speed and convenience as well as security.
Nowadays, even a smartphone is enough for online shopping. According to the study, 74% of Hungarian consumers use their smartphones to search for products and services, 69% to browse for discounts and sales, 59% to compare prices and 62% to pay with it. In the case of the latter indicator, we are slightly behind the other countries of the region, this ratio is 68% for the Czechs, 71% for the Poles, and 72% for the Slovaks. Hungarians like to shop online with their smartphones mainly because of convenience (60%) and speed (56%).
Smartphones and tablets also enable new in-app shopping and payment experiences. Hungarians are happy to add their bank cards to various applications: they most often pay this way for ordering food (31%), streaming services (24%), transport (18%) and travel (17%). 40% of respondents answered that they added their card to the most popular Hungarian mobile wallet application. The study also revealed that Generation Z, i.e. 76% of Hungarians aged 18-24, have already added their card to at least one mobile application. In Poland it is a little lower, 67%, while in Romania (82%) and Slovakia (80%) this rate is a little higher.
