The introduction of green cement products continues under a new brand name
Lafarge Cement Magyarország Kft., which operates a cement factory in Királyegyháza, Baranya, will continue its operations under the name Holcim Magyarország Kft., the company intending to introduce a new green cement product to the Hungarian market told MTI.
In their press release, they wrote that the name and image change, which took place on May 1st, “expresses and further strengthens the shared values with the global parent company, the Holcim group of companies, which is committed to long-term sustainable and environmentally conscious construction solutions”. Tamás Hoffmann, managing director of Holcim Hungary Kft. quoting its director, they highlighted: Holcim “aims to be the green engine of the domestic construction industry” in the future.
HUF 4.5 billion for environmental protection over 12 years
According to the announcement, since its opening in 2011, the Kárályegyháza cement factory has implemented environmental protection investments worth more than HUF 4.5 billion, and is now able to replace fossil fuels with alternative fuels in around 90 percent. As a result, the factory reduced its net carbon dioxide emissions by more than 45 percent for one ton of cement-bound product, while its sustainability goal to be achieved by 2050 is to achieve net zero emissions.
The company appeared on the market this spring with its second “green” cement product
The new product is realized with at least a 30 percent smaller carbon footprint compared to the company’s CEM I class cement products. The company’s goal is to green its entire product portfolio, so in the future it also plans to introduce a cement that is made by recycling construction and demolition waste – similar to Holcim’s SUSTENO product – they wrote.
Holcim Magyarország Kft. employs nearly 150 people, and its net sales revenue in 2022 was more than HUF 30 billion. According to public company data, the legal predecessor Lafarge Cement Magyarország Kft. in 2021 achieved a profit after tax of HUF 752 million with net sales of HUF 28.404 billion. Holcim, which employs more than 60,000 workers worldwide, operates a cement factory and a clay and limestone mine in Királyegyháza and Bükkösd, also in Baranya, in Hungary.
