Trenkwalder: The average hourly wage of manual workers increased by 19 percent in the second quarter
In the second quarter, the average gross hourly wage of skilled and trained workers performing physical work was HUF 1,853, which is a 19 percent increase compared to HUF 1,553 in the same period of the previous year, Trenkwalder and Moore Hungary told MTI.
In its analysis, Trenkwalder, which deals with labor hire and mediation, processed the salary data of almost 7,000 employees. According to the statistics with a geographical breakdown, the average physical hourly wage has climbed above 1,600 forints even in Northern Hungary, while in the other regions this value is between 1,700 and 1,900 forints. Central Hungary and the capital continue to stand out from this field: here, the average hourly wages are already close to HUF 2,500.
The announcement quoted Viktor Hamrák, Trenkwalder’s director of services, who said that the average hourly wage increase of 19 percent indicates that real wages fell even in the second quarter: in June, the Central Statistical Office still showed inflation of just over 20 percent for the previous 12 months. In his opinion, although the statistics will probably show a decrease in real wages for the whole of 2023, the purchasing value of the earnings of manual workers may improve again from the third quarter, said the expert.
