More wholesalers and fewer growers at the Budapest Wholesale Market
The Budapest Wholesale Market was founded in 1991. Last year the market sold 470,521 tons of products – 236,621 tons via growers and 233,400 through wholesalers.
In the last 10 years the number of growers at the market dropped 6.6 percent, but at the same time the number of wholesalers with a stand increased, to reach 228 in 2018. There are 2,465 growers selling regularly at the Budapest Wholesale Market, and the number of regularly buying retailers is 7,215. There is a 1,800m² waste-yard at the market, where waste is collected selectively.
About the market’s future plans, CEO Zoltán Házi told: they plan to improve the selling conditions for growers. They also intend to participate in programmes that promote fruit and vegetable consumption. //
