Dreher Sörgyárak touches wheat in a completely unusual way
The recipes of Dreher Sörgyárak’s domestic brands traditionally lack wheat as an ingredient. In the Brewery, which operates independently of the company’s historic brewhouse and breweries, this tradition has now been broken with a twist: with the ANTL Búza Session Lager, they have created not a Belgian or German wheat beer, but a low-alcohol, light, yet balanced summer drink made with bottom fermentation.
The essence of the Sörműhely, handed over in 2021, and the ANTL beers produced here, is that the brewmasters of the factory can experiment more freely with their ideas and present their bolder recipes aimed at narrow target groups to beer fans. Two ANTL beers are always available on the taps of the selected restaurants, the Búza Session Lager comes alongside the previously presented Key West APA.
“ANTL Wheat Session Lager is made by adding wheat malt, wheat and oat flakes in addition to the usual barley malt. For hops, we chose varieties with citrus and slightly spicy flavors, which dominate the concoction more than usual for traditional wheat beers. The real twist is that we used lager yeast for fermentation. With this and the lower alcohol content of 4.1 percent, we are now presenting a light, yet balanced summer beer”
Máté Mihály, innovation brewer at Dreher Breweries, said about his recipe.
