Gluten-free diet
In Hungary 1-2 percent of the population are sensitive to gluten and the proportion of lactose intolerant people is between 20 and 40 percent. For them it is crucial to buy products they can consume safely. When following a gluten-free diet, special attention must be paid to the weekly menu, so that one consumes enough fibres, vitamins and minerals, and doesn’t eat too much quickly absorbed carbohydrate. Alternative cereals (millet, buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth) and the flours made of these can be of great help in this.
Lidl does its best to offer as many different free-from products to customers as possible. Recently Lidl has unveiled 4 new gluten-free products, so shoppers can now choose from 65 bakery items made in-store. The products are pre-packaged and the whole preparation guarantees that gluten-free bakery items aren’t in contact with ordinary baked goods.
Lidl not only sells gluten-free breads and other bakery items, but also gluten-free flour mixes and pastas, plus lactose-free milk, cheese butter and other lactose-free dairy products. The Lidl website also helps customers in planning what to eat: it features many gluten- and lactose-free dish recipes and weekly sample diets for five meals per day.
