Stable prices are expected for festive fish consumption
Fishing has been going on in the fish farms for weeks, and in the Hortobágy area they are already halfway through the work. This season, carp and catfish are still the most popular types of fish for festive catches, and according to the RTL Híradó report, their prices are expected to be the same as last year’s price level.
The stability of prices is partly due to weather conditions. Although the drought affected the fish population, there was no significant destruction. In addition, feed prices did not rise to such an extent that farmers would be forced to raise prices. This is particularly important for fish farmers, as the Christmas season is traditionally one of the busiest periods for fish consumption.
Carp and catfish have maintained their leading place on Hungarian holiday tables for years. This popularity is due to their taste and versatility in traditional recipes. The fact that their prices will remain stable this year is good news for customers, who can enjoy classic Christmas dishes at affordable prices.
The stability of the fish market is a positive message not only for producers, but also for consumers. During the Christmas period, it is especially important that the ingredients of traditional dishes, such as fish soup, remain available and affordable. Domestic farmers have so far successfully coped with the weather challenges, thus ensuring the necessary amount of fish to meet the holiday demand.
