Looking back at Sirha Budapest 2022
Sirha Budapest was organised for the fifth time and by now the trade show has become the biggest event in the region, where gastronomy, the food, bakery and confectionery sectors, the hotel and hospitality industry and packaging showcased their products and services on a floor space of 30,000m².
At the opening ceremony Lajos Bognár, deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture talked about Hungary having good chances in the market competition following the post-Covid restart, as the country had continued investing during the pandemic.
Hungexpo CEO Gábor Ganczer spoke about the HoReCa sector’s efforts during the crisis –investing in development at the time of the lockdown. Hungexpo did the same, realising the biggest development project of the past decades, the results of which could be seen at Sirha Budapest.
During the three days of the trade fair the conference hall was waiting for experts with topics such as the problems in the post-Covid restart, market restructuring, labour market issues, mass catering trends and sustainable hospitality.
Trade magazin’s 7th Future Store had a floor space of more than 700m², where 24 exhibitors presented their products and services to visitors, who could go on guided tours around the store – there were more than 1,000 participants in the guided tours.
Various trade competitions are very popular at Sirha Budapest. The Sirha Budapest Dessert Competition was organised for the fifth time and the Public Sector Catering Competition traditionally takes place here every other year. This year brought the debut of the Sirha Coffee Challenge barista competition. There was great interest in the Pataki János Memorial Competition of the Hungarian Confectioners Guild, and in the first round of the jurying of the Cake of Hungary contest.
Trade magazine was the co-organiser of the Sirha Budapest Innovation Product Competition There were 31 competition entries and winners were announced in 8 categories at the trade show’s opening ceremony. During the two days of the Bocuse d’Or European selection thousands of people were rooting for the 17 national teams.

Cake of Hungary
The Hungarian Confectioners Guild organised the Cake of Hungary contest for the 16th time. Sirha Budapest visitors could watch the first round of jurying live.
Pataki János Memorial Competition
This contest was organised for practising and student confectioners in the cake decoration, artistic confectionery and sugar flower composition categories.

MMSZ workshop
The Event Section of the Hungarian Marketing Association (MMSZ) organised its first workshop at Sirha Budapest: the HoReCa Marketing Workshop dealt with the most important topical issues from a marketing perspective – informed Krisztina Bódi, the head of MMSZ’s Event Section.

Ákos Bősze, HoReCa business development executive of METRO (the special trade partner of Sirha Budapest): “These three days were about celebrating the HoReCa sector. More than 20,000 representatives of the hospitality sector gathered to learn about the latest innovations. Sustainability
At this year’s Sirha Budapest the Responsible Gastro Hero Foundation organised a conference on sustainable hospitality. Experts discussed circular economy solutions in the sector in two roundtable discussions. The winner restaurants of the ‘Gastro Hero Award – Hungarian circular economy solutions’ competition were also announced here. //
