Consumer confidence in the United States deteriorated in August
Consumer confidence in the United States fell more than expected to a six-month low in August as a result of concerns about the rapid spread of a highly infectious delta mutation in the coronavirus and rising inflation.
The Conference Board’s nonprofit economic research institute said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index fell from 125.1 points in July to 113.8 points, down 19 points from its pre-pandemic level. Analysts expected a slight deterioration of 124.0 points from August. (MTI)
