Rice crisis in Cambodia
Rice production in Cambodia, one of the Far East’s most important economic segments, is in serious trouble – origo wrote, according to the Asia Times.
Rice is a key agricultural crop in Cambodia, and rice production is one of the driving forces in rural agriculture.
One of the major problems is extreme weather. The Ministry of Agriculture warned farmers last year that weather conditions are likely to reduce the amount of seedlings available during the dry season (which usually lasts until April). In fact, land is increasingly and more unpredictably affected by floods, alternating with droughts, and these fluctuations make agricultural work more difficult and reduce the expected yield. (origo)
