More than 300 million cans were made from almost 136 tons of corn, which exceeded this year’s target by 8 percent and last year’s amount by 30 percent. 90 percent of the products are taken abroad, Bonduelle delivers goods from Hungary to about 20 countries, they wrote. According to the announcement, the company still sees great opportunities in sweet corn production due to the environmental conditions. In Hungary, almost 130 partners grow corn on a total of 10,500 hectares, and 95 percent of the farmers have contracts that renew every year. The domestic consumption can be estimated at 12 million cans, that is, 3.5 kilograms per year based on 3.5 million households. Customers benefit from the fact that, despite the high processing and packaging costs, canned products have become less expensive than fresh vegetables, they added.
Sweet corn accounts for almost 60 percent of Bonduelle’s sales, and within this, the super sweet varieties are the most popular
The share of green peas and mixed vegetables is also significant, and canned beans are also increasingly popular. The spread of environmental and health awareness is good for traffic, and the demand for plant-based products increases with the abandonment of meat. To this end, the company expanded its Nagykőrös and Békéscsaba plants this year. The French company also operates a factory in Nyírszőlős. According to his report, the Nagykőrös-based company achieved sales revenue of HUF 69.4 billion in the business year ending in June 2022, and HUF 59.85 billion before that. Taxed profit decreased from HUF 3.6 billion to HUF 2.8 billion.
