Employees are particularly active in the job market, their decisions are still mostly determined by the level of salaries and benefits, so the wage pressure on companies is increased. Currently, every third employee would consider changing jobs if they did not receive a bonus this year revealed from a recent, representative study by Profession.hu.

Are we satisfied?

42% of employees received a reward, premium, or bonus at work in 2024. Last year, 28 percent of employees who received a bonus received their monthly salary at the end of the year, half of them took home a smaller amount and 18 percent more. The bonus is almost always a recognition of performance: half of them calculate the reward based on individual results, and 46 percent calculate the reward based on the company’s results.
However, not everyone is satisfied with the amount of their bonus and the commission calculation system. Four out of ten employees are dissatisfied with both the amount of their bonus and the commission calculation system, and two out of ten say the system is good, but the amount received is small.

Will there be a bonus this year? Are we hoping for a pay raise?

“From our previous 2025 research, we clearly saw that this year, the size of the salary package has become an even more cardinal issue when changing jobs than last year: for nine out of ten Hungarians, it is among the main considerations. And the important element of the salary package is the size of the bonus or premium. 42% of employees received some kind of reward last year, but this year more than that expect it: more than half of those surveyed indicated that they are confident that there will be one”
– said Blanka Dencső, market research and business development expert at Profession.hu.
38 of the employees did not receive an inflation-tracking salary increase this year, while 34% had a general one, covering all employees. Among those who received a raise this year, the most common increase was between 6 and 10%: almost half of the respondents indicated this. 32 percent of them received a salary increase of up to 5 percent, 15 percent could count on an increase of between 11 and 15 percent, and only 5 percent received a higher salary increase.
Looking at expectations for 2026, 27 percent of workers do not expect any further salary increases, while the rest expect a smaller or larger increase: 28% expect a salary increase of 5%, 30% of them expect a salary increase of between 6 and 10%. Every tenth employee expects a raise of between 11 and 15 percent, and every twentieth considers a higher increase to be realistic.
