Penny Market: development and a new logistics centre
Discount supermarket chain Penny Market celebrated its 20th birthday in 2016. Hungarian Penny Market stores were modernised and the 207th store opened last year. Penny Market is now busy building its third logistics centre near Veszprém. The 26,500m² centre will supply nearly 60 Penny Market stores with goods in West Hungary. More than 130 jobs will be created in the new logistics centre.

The retailer also pays special attention to sustainability: as stores and warehouses are now closer to each other, transporting goods will generate lower emission levels. Last year Penny Market started selling baked goods made in-store. This year health corners are created in stores. From Penny Market’s private label products (Sissy, Karát, Dárdás, Czifra, Wippy, Aranykosár) lactose-free dairy products appeared under the Sissy label in 2016. The retailer’s CSR activities include cooperating with the One Drop of Attention Foundation.
