Five good reasons to start mushroom farming
More and more investors are considering mushroom cultivation. Daniel Dajewski, CEO and co-founder of Agro-Projects Group explained: the costs involved in building a modern mushroom farm are arguably greater than setting up in tomato or cucumber production, but at the same time mushrooms may be the most advantageous product to sell.
Mushroom farming is quite profitable
In 2021 the size of the global mushroom market was estimated to be USD 50.3bn in 2021, and it is expected to expand at a growth rate of almost 10% in the next eight years. The increasing vegan population demanding a protein-rich diet all over the world is expected to be a key driver for the market. Those who decide to build a mushroom farm get a product that requires no promotion, because almost all over the world mushrooms are used in the food industry – and in the case of certain varieties in the cosmetics industry too.
Five reasons why building a mushroom farm is a good idea
• 1. Vegetarianism, veganism, plant-based diets, plant meat and meat substitute diets all include mushrooms: mushrooms benefit from having a “meaty” texture, being rich in nutritional components and providing a feeling of satisfaction after consumption.
• 2. Healthy diet that prevents diseases: mushrooms contain B2, B3, folate, B5 vitamins, phosphorus, selenium, copper, potassium, antioxidants and are very healthy.
• 3. Vitamin D madness: before and during the Covid-19 pandemic lots of consumers took Vitamin D supplements for its vital contribution to immune function.
• 4. Food with umami flavour: consumers now know that umami tends to be very satisfying and flavourful, allows up to 50% salt reduction and highlights sweetness while lessening bitter flavours in food.
• 5. Sustainability: mushroom growing is environmentally friendly. //
