We help the food security of countries in need with scholarships
“Our country provides important agricultural knowledge that can be used on a daily basis to food professionals in developing countries. The problems must be solved locally, and with this successful study program, among other things, we help countries in need,” emphasized Oszkár Ökrös, the Deputy Secretary of State responsible for international relations at the Ministry of Agriculture, at the ceremony of the FAO scholarship program.

In 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture continued the scholarship program started almost 15 years ago, in which it provides scholarships to students from developing countries at Hungarian agricultural universities. Since the start of the program, 370 students from 46 countries have received support to continue their master’s studies. The newly admitted students were welcomed by the Ministry of Agriculture, the host Hungarian agricultural universities, and representatives of the European and Central Asian Regional Office of the FAO on December 7 at the Ministry of Agriculture in Budapest.
Deputy State Secretary Dr. Oszkár Ökrös reminded that the scholarship program is an important pillar of the close cooperation between FAO and Hungary
Its main goal is to increase global food security and meet sustainable development goals. The students from the affected countries receive training that can be easily used in everyday life, with which they can promote the growth of their country’s agriculture. As he said, Hungary helps the developing world with a number of tools in order to solve agricultural problems locally. “Several of the agricultural scholarship recipients now work in senior positions in their home countries. All this makes it possible to strengthen professional and scientific cooperation with these countries, to increase Hungary’s influence, and to invigorate economic relations and our exports,” emphasized the Deputy State Secretary.
