Nielsen: gluten-free life for 80 billion a year
Gluten-free foods accounted for 4 percent of the total value-added domestic retail trade turnover between July 2018 and June 2019, which amounts to nearly 80 billion HUF. Among other things, gluten-free tortillas and frozen pizzas sales are emerging – according to the Nielsen’s Retail Index.
“In Hungary, the proportion of people suffering from allergy or food intolerance is above the EU average: according to Nielsen’s 2017 global survey, 7 percent of the Hungarian population is gluten-sensitive,” – Hajnal Dóra, senior consultant at Nielsen said. “In addition, various consumer associations, such as health and consumer awareness, are driving the market for gluten-free products.” (Nielsen)
