Viewpoint: four out of five Hungarians prepare gifts for Christmas
79 percent of Hungarians are preparing for Christmas with gifts this year as well – according to a telephone poll conducted by the Nézőpint Institute, the results of which were sent to MTI on Monday.
Gifts are primarily bought from savings and income, almost no one is preparing to spend on credit, based on a survey of Hungarian society’s Christmas consumption habits.
52 percent of gift givers spend between 10 and 50 thousand forints on surprises. 20 percent of respondents indicated that they would not buy a present this year.
Regardless of age, gender and place of residence, the desire to give gifts is almost the same. The exception is people over 60, among whom the desire to give gifts is only 68 percent.
52 percent of those who are going to buy a gift spend between 10 and 50 thousand forints on this occasion. One fifth of them, 21 percent, plan to spend even more, between 50 and 100 thousand forints, and 11 percent of society plans to spend less than 10 thousand forints. 11 percent of those surveyed spend more than HUF 100,000 on gifts, they said.
