István Nagy: the starting point of Hungarian agriculture is quality production
In the ever-stronger international competition, the starting point of Hungarian agriculture can be the increase of added value and the level of processing, the production of high-quality food, said István Nagy in the M1 current affairs program on Tuesday morning.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, the domestic food industry can rely on safe raw materials, as the cultivation conditions in Hungary are excellent, but it can only be successful in foreign markets if it follows the rapidly changing consumer expectations. Developments are also necessary because Hungarian agriculture cannot be successful in quantitative competition, domestic farming covering 5 million hectares is not significant on the world market, he added. The head of the ministry announced that food industry enterprises can apply for a total of HUF 200 billion in support, of which complex developments and constructions are supported by HUF 150 billion and smaller ones by HUF 50 billion. The sources can contribute 50 percent to the investments, but the application intensity can be increased by an additional 10-10 percent for applications with green goals or integration, i.e. it can even reach 70 percent.
István Nagy is confident that by effectively utilizing his development resources, Hungarian food industry processors can increase the total value of their exports by 50 percent
According to the minister’s expectation, the prospects for agriculture are also favorable at the EU level, since the results of the EP elections and the effective protest actions of producers can create the conditions for a farmer-centered agricultural policy to return to the path of normality in Europe.
