How much do groceries really cost? (Video)
About 14% of all food produced goes to waste between harvest and the wholesale market, resulting in $400 billion worth of food waste each year.
But it’s not just a loss of money here, food waste also has social and environmental effects, as we use 75 billion cubic meters of water every year to produce fruits and vegetables that end up as waste before consumption. And this means 912 trillion kilocalories and microelements, which never reach consumers.
Food is worth much more than what we pay for it.
