There is an agreement on grain imports from Ukraine
The European Commission finally heard the requests of the Hungarian farmers, and our efforts were not in vain. The EU-level agreement on the ban on grain imports from Ukraine has been reached – Minister of Agriculture István Nagy announced on his social media page.

The head of the ministry pointed out that Brussels yielded to the pressure of the five member states, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania, recognized the seriousness of the market situation in the region and, in practice, by applying an extraordinary protective measure, allows the ban on the import of several agricultural products from Ukraine to the territory of these member states until as long as the current extraordinary market situation persists.
The agreement covers four products: wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and rapeseed
The import of these products into Hungary will therefore be prohibited in the future as well. The regulations regarding the domestic import ban will be introduced when the measure to be introduced by Brussels begins, so the continuity of the import ban can be maintained. They confirmed to us that the European Commission is also proposing extraordinary support in the amount of 100 million euros to the farmers of the bordering member states, which would be distributed proportionally among the five member states. Hungary managed to get Brussels to change direction, the minister underlined.
Our country continues to support the delivery to the destination countries
István Nagy stated that the market disturbances will be resolved if the Ukrainian grain can once again reach its destination countries, Africa and the Middle East, via the traditional routes, which Hungary continues to support. At the same time, our country is doing everything to ensure that the country is supplied with quality food. Only high-quality, strictly controlled, safe food can be put on the table of Hungarian families, and we will not allow this, said the head of the ministry. He added that the Hungarian government always stands by the Hungarian farmers, even in this situation it was only open to an agreement that guarantees their interests.
