Cakes of Hungary
The Guild of Hungarian Confectioners organised the Cake of Hungary competition for the 12th time. This year the jury selected the winner from 29 cakes: Little Girl from Komárom, the creation of Ádám Sztarcsek (Komárom) became the Cake of Hungary. In 2018 the Sugar-free Cake of Hungary was made by László Nándori (Budapest) and it is called Three Wishes. People can taste the two winners in confectioneries all over Hungary.
Ádám Sztaracsek: I have been working as a confectioner for 4 years. I work in the family confectionery, constantly testing my ideas. My parents also won confectioner competitions in the past. I was making plans for about 2 months and prepared the cake in 2 days. However, the final version that won the final underwent some modifications based on the suggestions of jury members. As for competitions, I don’t have a clue. One thing is for sure: I am taking over the family confectionery from my 75-year-old dad.
László Nándori: Not really, it is just that we haven’t managed to win the competition of classic cakes yet. Ours is a traditional confectionery, only about 5 percent of our sales are realised by products satisfying special needs. However, we have been experimenting with the latter for years. The dough is the improved version of a similar cake I made earlier, and I decided to use sour cherry and cottage cheese because I love them. We had had to prepare the cake 3-4 times before we could say: this is it! I simply needed a rest, plus the demand for the previous two winning cakes has remained high from guests. Finally I felt that I had to return to the competition because I was convinced that what we are doing is the right thing professionally. //
