Hungarian Confectionery Industry Association: HUF 450-500 ice creams are coming
The industry expects a good ice cream season despite the fact that confectioners are planning a 10-15 percent increase during the season, so the price of a scoop of ice cream can be HUF 450-500. Balázs Erdélyi, the professional president of the Hungarian Confectionery Industry Association, spoke to Pénzcentrum about his expectations for the year 2023.
“Fortunately, most confectionary businesses successfully overcame the obstacles last year, but we had an extremely difficult and unpredictable year. After the explosive price increases of raw materials, the energy crisis caused the biggest problem for our profession, and unfortunately, even this year, many businesses are having trouble extracting energy costs.”
– said Erdélyi.
Regarding the price increase, he said:
“All downturns can be expected, but for now we are optimistic. It is likely that foreign trips or wellness weekends will be left out of many people’s lives, even a large family dinner in a quality restaurant will incur serious costs, but compared to these, a visit to a pastry shop is still considered cheaper. One or two a scoop of ice cream, a cake or a delicious coffee can fit in even more easily, and an hour spent in a pastry shop is also perfect for recharging and relaxing. Colleagues across the country are offering better and better products, there are more and more good pastry shops and ice cream parlors, so the culinary experience is becoming more and more serious. Quality products and quality services are needed so that guests are happy to come back to the pastry shops, and then a significantly smaller decrease in demand can be expected”
– he believes that the slice prices of cakes are rising at a much lower rate than restaurant prices, confectioners are planning a 10-15 percent increase during the season, so the price of a scoop of ice cream could be HUF 450-500 in the summer of 2023.
