Magazine: The next home preserving season may be outstanding
In Hungary a large part of home made marmalades and jams are made from fruits grown in people’s own gardens: the majority of housewives make jams and preserves because they want the family to enjoy the sweet taste of fruit from the garden in winter as well.
They know where the fruit comes from and they also save money. According to Eszter Varga, trade marketing and category manager of Dr. Oetker Hungary, when it comes to buying home preserving supplies it is very important for stores to stock enough: if the weather is right consumer demand may skyrocket in just a day. She told that due to the growing popularity of modern lifestyle the market is expected to turn in the direction of sugar saving solutions. In line with consumer demand, Dr. Oetker offers faster and more comfortable home preserving solutions than ever before. With Dr. Oetker Preserving Sugars and Jam Fixes less sugar is needed for making marmalades and jams, so they will have higher fruit content. Dr. Oetker Jam Fix is available in 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1 versions: using the first one requires the most sugar. In 2014 the company put Preserving Sugar with Stevia on the market: the stevia in the product substitutes 150g of sugar, so the jam’s sugar content can be reduced by as much as 30 percent. Ed.Haas Hungaria Kft.’s marketing manager Renáta Kamocsai told Trade magazin that they offer one of the widest product ranges in the market. Their most popular products are sugar saving Haas Quittin gel fixes, for instance by using Haas Quittin 4:1 it is enough to add 200g sugar to 1.5kg of fruit. By using these products jam and marmalade can be made faster, which means that the vitamin content of the fruits used remains higher. Dr. Oetker prepares for the home preserving season with a television campaign, new in-store displays and POS tools. In their free booklet there are recipes, practical ideas and various techniques; a prize game is also part of the campaign. Ed.Haas Hungaria Kft. uses strong store presence during the season and organises a prize game combined with an online campaign. On the website lekvarvarazs.hu practical ideas and useful videos are waiting for consumers. The company comes out with new products each season: this year they focus on preserving pickles, adding new products to their portfolio that are needed in this segment, such as tartaric acid or sodium benzoate.
