Lidl Hungary: Responsible, sustainable and developing
Lidl Hungary makes it a priority to operate responsibly in every field. As part of the Schwarz Group’s – Lidl’s owner – REset Plastic strategy, in 2018 Lidl Hungary made a pledge to cut its plastic use by 20 percent until 2025, at the same time making the packaging of private label products 100-percent recyclable. Another objective of the discount retailer is to get rid of microplastics in the majority of private label beauty products by the end of 2021.
Less plastic, greener world
In 2020 Lidl Hungary optimised the packaging of fruits and vegetables, using 24.94 tonnes less plastic, plus the discounter made reusable fruit and vegetable bags available to customers in stores. Judit Tőzsér, head of company communication told: the discounter practices sustainability across the whole value chain. Their priorities include sustainable purchasing, supporting Hungarian suppliers, using less plastic and increasing worker salaries regularly.
Lidl Hungary’s first Sustainability Report won Deloitte Hungary’s Green Frog Award in 2020. You can read the report on the company website. Lidl Hungary’s website also features a sustainability subpage.(x)
