Reduction in VAT may boost fish consumption
The 5 percent VAT reduction of fish meat may boost the Hungarian aquaculture, the production of fishery products and promotes the growth of consumption – Németh István, president of the Hungarian Aquaculture and Fisheries Interprofessional Organization (Mahal) told M1 news channel.
He emphasized that the VAT reduction may reduce fish prices by 15 percent. The biggest problem of the sector is the competitive disadvantage caused by the VAT reduction in the price of pig and poultry meat – he said. Consumers consider the price of fish high, as one kilogram of boneless pork costs the same as a kilogram of live carp – he added. (MTI)
