Red wine is still the favourite but its advantage is shrinking
In the eight retail chains measured by Nielsen, 8 percent more wine was sold in volume and value sales soared by 10 percent in the December 2010-May 2011 period. More than 22 million litres of wine was sold in the value of HUF 12 billion in the units of the eight chains. From this red wine had a 53-percent volume share, 2 percent less than a year earlier, while value share was up 3 percentage points at 54. Rosé’s market share climbed from 8 to 9 percent in terms of value. White wine was stable at 37 percent. The volume weighted average price of wine was HUF 547 this April-May, up 7 percent from a year before. 76 percent of value sales was realised in 0.75-litre bottles.
